Letter from the UN Secretary General praising Bangladesh

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has expressed deep gratitude to Bangladesh for providing shelter to the Rohingya people fleeing atrocities and persecution in Myanmar.

Recently, the Foreign Minister. He expressed his gratitude in a letter to AK Abdul Momen. 

Earlier, the United Nations assured that it would continue talks with Myanmar to create a conducive environment for the sustainable return of Rohingya to Rakhine State. The Secretary-General reiterated his commitment that the United Nations would jointly stand by Bangladesh in resolving the crisis and strengthen international assistance.

The UN Secretary General thanked the Government of Bangladesh for supporting the work of his office. He also sought Bangladesh’s continued cooperation with its Special Envoy to Myanmar for further international assistance in finding a lasting solution to the Rohingya crisis.

Earlier, Foreign Minister. Momen sent him a letter wishing him a Happy New Year. The foreign minister called on the United Nations to start repatriating Rohingyas and adopt a sustainable plan. In response, the UN Secretary General sent the letter to the Foreign Minister.
