National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Abu. Rahmatul Munim said, we had all the support in the health sector. However, we are concerned about dishonest traders. Unscrupulous traders always take advantage of good opportunities. They create legal avenues for business. That’s why we can’t give much even if we want to.

He was speaking at the pre-budget discussion of the Private Medical Colleges Association (BPMCA) at the NBR headquarters on Wednesday (March 3rd).

The NBR chairman said, “We will see if we can pay tax benefits if we build a good quality hospital in Mofasbal area outside Dhaka.” We want healthcare to spread across the country.

In response to a question, the NBR chairman said, you are a non-profit (non-profit) organization. But as a bank, Hughes shows money. If we have so much money, should we call it a non-profit organization? And if there is no profit in the account, then the tax will not come automatically.

“I am just happy with the medical service,” he said. He gave a lot of pain in his student life. I saw that doctors do not see patients for money. Patients do not receive treatment. But the service that doctors provided during Corona is a big change. I am satisfied with this.

However, a large number of patients are going to neighboring countries. Improve your service. We teach students in the neighboring country, then why the patient will go to the neighboring country?

In the budget proposal, the Private Medical Colleges Association (BPMCA) said it was ensuring quality healthcare and medical education with the right approach to modern science that is beneficial to the people. Therefore, in the coming fiscal year 2021-22, the budget has withdrawn income tax from private medical colleges. Private medical colleges are working for the people as a non-profit and service organization in the education and medical services sector of this country. Until 2010, no income tax was imposed in this sector. In 2010, a 15 per cent income tax was imposed on private medical colleges through a notification. It has been recommended to abolish private medical colleges as non-profit organizations.

MA Mobin Khan, president of the organization, said that since the inception of Corona, medical services have been provided to all patients. The use of PPE and surgical hand gloves to protect health workers has been the highest. In this situation, there is a total tax of 37.48 percent including customs duty, VAT, AIT and ATV for import from private medical college hospitals on their own initiative. In this critical period which has become very difficult. So I am proposing to waive that tax completely
.

In addition to the duty-free facilities for all types of equipment used in private medical colleges and hospitals, the organization recommends VAT and tax rebates on the import of life-saving equipment such as blood banks, refrigerators, payment monitors, anesthesia ventilators and ICU ventilators.

The association has recommended tax exemption on all educational materials in private medical colleges and hospitals.

The meeting was attended by senior members of NBR and BPMCA including members of NBR’s Income Tax, Customs-VAT Branch.
