Calling for more emphasis on agricultural research, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said there is no improvement without research.

“We have taken various steps for the development of agriculture since we came to power in 1996,” he said. Due to which in 1996 it achieved self-sufficiency in food for the first time.

He was speaking at the unveiling ceremony of ‘100 Agricultural Technology Atlas’ published by the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council through video conferencing on Thursday (February 4).

Sheikh Hasina said the development of agriculture was started by the father of the nation. He emphasized the importance of agriculture as Bangabandhu realized that the economy of Bangladesh was dependent on agriculture. He gave first class status to agriculturists.

He said that they have to maintain their market by producing, processing and marketing new agricultural products. It has to be exported to meet the demand of the country. Therefore, it is necessary to focus on discovering and cultivating more productive products at low cost. That is why research is more important. I would like to encourage scientists to increase research. That’s why I looked for a way, I didn’t find it. You will give advice in this regard.

The Prime Minister said agriculture is important for food security. Thank you for your (scientific) innovation. Atlas has published 100 important varieties of your innovation, a good initiative. It will be useful for the future. Others will benefit.

Agriculture Minister. Agriculture Secretary Mesbaul Islam gave a welcome speech under the chairmanship of Abdur Razzak, Matia Chowdhury, Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Agriculture and Rafiqul Islam, a successful farmer. Fisheries and Animal Resources Minister Sham Rezaul Karim was present.
