Mahbubul Alam, executive director of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC), said, “We need to present the capital market to foreign investors and expatriates.” For this, regular road shows will be held abroad. Through which many foreign investments will increase in the country’s stock market and the development of the capital market will take place.

He was speaking at a press conference on the occasion of the First Road Show in Dubai, United Arab Emirates on Tuesday (February 2) at 11:30 am at the Multipurpose Hall of BSEC’s own office in Agargaon.

The four-day (February 9-12) road show will start on February 9. The commission will hold conferences with expatriate investors, foreign investors, institutional investors and small groups of investors. It will highlight various issues including economic development and investment prospects of Bangladesh, investment opportunities, availability of facilities.

Mahbub Alam said, Bangladesh’s economic growth is very good. Our capital market is lagging behind with the economic growth of the country. With the economic growth of different countries, however, the capital market develops and the capital market is mainly long-term financing.

“We want to increase the contribution of the capital market as our other economies have improved,” he said. Recently, remittances have increased even after Corona. And there are many crises in the economy of different countries in the future. Investment or return investment has become negative in many countries. Therefore, foreign investors are interested in Bangladesh. But Bangladesh recovered it very soon after Corona and we are back in the growth stage. Our return investment is much better.

This executive director of BSEC said, “Infrastructure projects are being done in our country, extensive work is going on.” From here on out for financing these infrastructure projects and various long-term projects that we have now, what is happening in Bangladesh is basically the banking sector and the government sector has been taking some foreign help from the government. Basically these expenses are met from debt. But it can’t go on like this for long. Besides, the private sector is developing with loans. But the banking sector is no longer able to supply. The banking sector is slowly weakening.

Mahbub Alam said the growth of the capital market has been much better in the last few months. Foreign investors and expatriates are showing interest in investing here. Our job is to exploit their interest. Highlight our capital market in front of them. New products are coming to our capital market. Work is underway here for bond market development. He is also working on other products including Sukuk. We need these products for long term investment. We will highlight the opportunities to invest in these products to foreigners and NRBs. We hope that through this road show our foreign investment will increase a lot and there will be development of capital market.

BSEC Chairman Professor Shibli Rubaiyat-ul-Islam, Executive Director and Spokesperson Mohammad Rezaul Karim and others were present on the occasion.
