Mushtaq Ahmed, who is on trial in a case under the Digital Security Act, died in custody on the night of February 26 at the Kashimpur High Security Jail in Gazipur. Mushtaq, son of Abdur Razzak of Chhota Balapur area of ​​Araihazar police station in Narayanganj, is one of the entrepreneurs of crocodile farming in Bangladesh.

RAB arrested cartoonists Ahmed Kabir Kishore and Mushtaq on May 7 last year amid the coronavirus crisis. The next day, a case was filed against them at the Ramna police station under the Digital Security Act for ‘spreading anti-government propaganda and rumors’. Mushtaq was sent to Dhaka Central Jail after his arrest; From there he was sent to Kashimpur Jail on August 24 last year.

Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Students Federation, a student wing of the Gana Sanghati Andolan, has protested against the death of writer Mushtaq Ahmed in jail and demanded the repeal of the Digital Security Act. At the end of the protest, the leaders and workers of the organization showed their ‘thumbs up’ by announcing the repeal of the Digital Security Act. The student federation also staged a protest in Shahbag on Friday demanding the same. They alleged that the police indiscriminately charged the leaders and activists of the left organizations with sticks.
