Suddenly the onion market in the hot capital. During the week, the wholesale price of domestic onion has gone up to Tk 10 per kg. More in retail. The wholesalers claim that the importers have stopped the LC due to non-receipt of price. So it goes without saying that there is no supply of imported onions in the market. Retailers are using this opportunity to drive up the price of onion at will.

When there was discomfort with rice, the price of onion was within the reach of the consumer. The market was full of onions from India, Egypt, China and the Netherlands, along with about 500,000 tonnes of domestic onions. But that picture has changed.

The Mohammadpur Wholesale Agricultural Market has been visited, the supply is only of local murikata and onions from the Netherlands. Wholesalers said imported Indian, Chinese and Egyptian onions were no longer available in the market a week ago. In this opportunity, the price of Varsa local onion has gone up from Rs 5 to Rs 10 per kg.

“We don’t have Indian onions,” said Ghulam Quader, a trader. And the wholesale price of domestic onion was 20-21 rupees but now it stands at 30-31 rupees.

Going to the next retail market, it was seen that small domestic onions are being sold at Rs 35 per kg. And big onion is being sold at 40 rupees. The same onion is being sold at the next shop for 35 rupees.

A retailer said, I am selling small onions for 35 rupees. And I am selling big onions for 40 rupees.

Despite the rise in onion prices, Chinese garlic and ginger prices have remained stable in the wholesale market.
